Taking a breather

So, I'm at home today. I finally have a chance to stay home and rest, so I took it and slept in today. I was planning on going to the doctor today, but I'm actually starting to feel a little better.

I've been trying to psych myself up for my 8 week training session in Biloxi. I'm working on a list of things I'm looking forward to so that it's not all bad:

1. Visiting New Orleans
2. Taking tons of pictures
3. Eating fresh and damn good seafood
4. Kick-starting my diet again
5. Saving money with the possibility of making money

That's all I got so far. But, it's a start. The new Mars Volta album is out today. Whew! It's killer! Here's a taste:

They're unlike anything you'll ever hear. Love it. Especially like how mercurial the song is. Every time you get it pegged, it flips and changes into something else. And the technical proficiency of the band is absolutely mind-blowing.

I'm finally going to watch Blade Runner! Tally and Tyler sent the Blu Ray version to me for my birthday and I got it today. So, I think I might watch it this afternoon! Also, The Nines is out today! Excited for that one.

Okay, fine, I'll go see a doctor

Weekend was good. Didn't do much, outside of the fight, but it was good. I did take a video of another fight, that of my brother's best friend Tony. Tony is a beast. He's 220-230ish (can't remember), and his fight lasted about 10 seconds. Got to meet him, finally, yesterday and it's amazing. He basically amounts to a teddy bear outside of the ring. But, damn, I would not want to face him in the ring.

My brother told me yesterday that the guy he beat actually passed out. I didn't realize this until today, but I caught a moment on film where you can see the results. As the film fades out to the aftermath portion, you can see the ref reach down, pick up the guy's arm, it flops down. He was unconscious at that point.

This is an awesome article, written concerning the recent hooopla over Mass Effect on Fox News. I was really, really glad to see it. But, it also exemplifies the problem with "journalism" today. And I use the term journalism very, very loosely. It's not about hashing things out and getting to the bottom of controversies. It's not about pursuing truth. It's not about telling the truth. It's about tabloids. It's about speaking before knowing. It's about lies.

I remember reading an article a few years ago about the "new journalism." The article, written, ironically enough, by a journalist working for the companies that it affects and is about, described how 9/11 changed the face of journalism. I'm going to completely butcher what was said, but the basic gist was that during 9/11 it was the tabloids who were getting the most news. For years, they were the place to go for "news" concerning celebs and when 9/11 happened, a lot of people apparently turned to them in droves because they had the information faster than the news programs.

When 9/11 was over and things were calming down, news programs began realizing just how much tabloids were making off of gossip, celebs and controversies. So, what happened to the news? They started taking on aspects of tabloids. We all know tabloids tell before knowing and make up the most egregious things before knowing if they're true or not, becuase it's about the dollar and about who can sell the news the quickest. No one who reads those magazines seem to care if it's real or not; if it is, they read it first. If it's not, well, there's always next time.

So, this piece of Fox News is interesting because it proves this point so damn well:

“'I recognize that I misspoke,' she said. 'I really regret saying that, and now that I’ve seen the game and seen the sex scenes it’s kind of a joke.

'Before the show I had asked somebody about what they had heard, and they had said it’s like pornography,' she added. 'But it’s not like pornography. I’ve seen episodes of Lost that are more sexually explicit.'"

Basically, we're listening to this woman; a woman who not only hasn't played the game but had absolutely no frickin' knowledge of the game past what someone "heard"? Utterly ridiculous.

Chris Mesnard v. Pat Harvey

I don't understand, sometimes, how youtube works. I uploaded a video (which took forever) and then it had to process (which took forever, as well). Now, the video is finally up. Unfortunately, when I do a search with words from the title, it doesn't come up...I guess it takes awhile, which seems to be a familiar refrain with youtube.

Anyway, my brother had his third fight last night. I filmed the entire thing...well most of it. In my excitement, I stopped filming at the very end and then remembered to start filming again (hence the little transition). Edited the whole thing together and it's up at youtube.

This was probably his most exciting fight I've watched. I was a bit worried because when I spoke to my brother prior to the match, he mentioned the fact that he was fighting a guy named Pat Harvey...who's 32 year old...who owns his own dojo...who is very experienced...who has fought 12 matches so far. Then, when Pat was walking up to the cage, I see this hulkin' huge guy in front and I'm thinking he's the guy Chris is fighting...then I realized he was part of Harvey's Harvey's posse. You can see the hulkin' guy I'm talking about at the very end as he leaves the match. He's the big guy wearing the black shirt.

Here it is:

We are not amused

So, DMC4 demo. Um...not very impressed. I liked it more than [info]callmesteam did, apparently, but I'm going to hold my opinion until the game releases. It's too easy, for one. And while there are times where the game is absolutely beautiful, some of the locations, especially the indoor ones, look like a higher-def version of earlier games.

I'm also not convinced in their decision to make Nero the main character, instead of Dante. I'm not 100% sure I like his abilities--or lack thereof--but, again, it's a demo. And sometimes a demo doesn't do a game justice. The boss fight was cool, though. Game moves blisteringly fast, as well, and virtually no load times = win.

PixelJunk Monsters...Now that is a good game. I played through about four levels last night and loved it. The art style doesn't really do much for me and I wish it controlled a bit faster and I wish it were more like the maze-like tower defense where you build towers as a labyrinth to make the monsters move where you want...but it's still great fun. You have to take it for what it is, and it excels at that. I'm looking forward to trying the 2 player mode.

I spent a small chunk of last night programing my new remote. It's pretty cool. I like that you can set up "activities" as opposed to switching between the devices. So, for instance, I created one called "Watch TV." So when I press that activity, it turns on my TV, my audio receiver and my DVR. Then, automatically, it knows that if I want to change the channel, the remote will use my DVR. If I want to turn up the volume, it'll use the receiver. So, there's no device-swapping for me. It just works for that activity.

Or, if I want to "Watch DVD," it'll turn on my Xbox 360, the TV and the receiver, turning all of it to the right area for sound and picture. Then, pushing the majority of the remote's buttons are synched as a Xbox 360 remote, with the volume still being controlled by the receiver.

Since it doesn't utilize bluetooth I can't use the remote for my PS3. That's the only knock I can make for it, so far. Setting things up is a cinch, though you need to have all of your products' model numbers. It's a guided program that takes you by the hand and sets things up with you. Very cool.

I had planned to play Harvey Birdman last night, but Ugly Betty drew me in and then I started playing PixelJunk Monsters and the DMC4 demo and before I knew it, it was past my bedtime.

Coming to you live from the arctic tundra known as Nebraska

Oh man, it is flippin' cold. I know it's flippin' cold because of two things. The first is that I noticed that I had frost/ice on the inside of my car. The second is that my car told me it was -7. In places around the metro it was -11. So, in retrospect I should say it was warm where I was at because it could have been colder.

Since I'm an idiot, I'm driving to work with my hands in my sweater's sleeves because I have yet to purchase gloves. Why? Because I'm an idiot.

I actually wish that, of all the times I could be going to training in Biloxi that I were there right now. I see that it's 48 degrees right now. Which some of you might scoff at as being called warm, but is like roasting in the fires of hell right now, compared to where I'm at.

DMC4 demo and PixelJunk Monsters are out today and for that I cry, "Huzzah!" The Moment of Truth is crap television. And not the kind of crap television that is actually fun to watch in a sort of why-the-hell-am-I-subjecting-myself-to-this. It's the crap television that's...well, crap. It's boring as hell, for one. And I don't understand how someone could lose the game outside of not answering a question. The first guy they had on lied and I'm thinking, why would you do that? You're at $100,000 and you lied? Way to go slick. Horribly boring and stupid show. In my defense, it was only background noise as we were destroying skeletons and wights in DDO...

My brother is supposedly fighting this weekend. He's one of the two headliners on the flyer. So they have him all looking tough and stuff on the flyer, with his fists up. It's kind of silly. But he's really excited and I'm...well, about the same as last time. Which is to say not very excited because that's my brother those fists are flying at.

I say he's supposedly fighting and that's because the guy he's supposed to fight never got back with them to schedule the fight. So, I asked him who he's fighting and it sounded like they'll have to grab someone at the fight. Which makes me wonder how many people just show up there, hoping to get in the ring. I have to say I'm a little relieved he's not fighting the guy he was supposed to. That guy is more experienced; he's had seven fights, four of which he's won and, according to my brother, none of his opponents were easy.

In other good news, I feel like I'm making strides towards feeling better. I'm still hacking up a lung, but it's more like half a lung than a full one right now. So...relatively speaking, that's a good thing.

...right?

It's Friday! And a Three Day Weekend! And Cloverfield!

So the reason the US Xbox 360 owners are getting screwed on the lack of Turok demo on Xbox Live is because it is apparently an exclusive demo for the Official Xbox Magazine. The announcement was probably either a slip-up or was released too soon. The review for it came up at 7.0; they basically said it's an "old school FPS" game, with the annoyingly use check point system and a very hard difficulty level, especially with bosses where you have to learn their pattern (usually dying a few times in the process). They said those who enjoy the old school shooters will probably get more enjoyment out of the game than they did.

The Xbox Mag also has three exclusive songs for Rock Band that you can't find elsewhere. Xbox.com, additionally, accidently let slip what's probably coming to Rock Band's downloadable content roster the next two weeks. Expect an Oasis pack (with Wonderall and their other big hit) next week with a "progressive rock" pack the following week. The progressive rock pack has a Coheed and Cambria song (!), a Rush song and......a Smashing Pumpkins song? Since when is Smashing Pumpkins "progressive rock?"

Before you get too excited, though, it looks like both the Coheed and the Rush song are covers...which isn't surprising with Rush...but Coheed? That makes me a sad panda. At least it's a good song ("10 Speed (God's Blood and Burial)").

I'm glad to see Cloverfield is sitting at a nice 77% with 65 reviews so far. Means it should be a pretty good movie. I'm really excited to see it tonight. I'm dragging people to it because of my birthday. We're going to eat at Nebraska Brewing Company then it's monster-destroys-New-York-time.

I'm so glad it's a three day weekend. I just wish I could kick this cold. I haven't had a good, full night of sleep this entire week. I even took a cough suppressant last night that's supposed to work for 12 hours and I woke at 2:00, coughing and hacking up a lung. You know how you cough and cough and your chest and throat start to hurt? That's my morning.

Finally...alright Quentin. We already know you're in love with trash films, exploitative films and grindhouse pictures. We get it. But, seriously, move on. Please. I really don't think the world needs a remake of the exploitative Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!. Let's just leave the homage responsibility to the song which, surprisingly, is kind of catchy.

Is it Friday yet?

As the week progresses, it's getting harder and harder to get out of bed. I'm feeling like crap and have been since Monday. Drainage for the lose. It's in my chest, so I'm coughing like crazy, my nose is plugged so I can't sleep. And when I do finally start to drift to sleep, I start coughing like mad. Then there's the once-in-awhile chills. Blech. So, last night I woke up around 3:30 and it took me forever to get back to sleep. There was a point, when I was staring at my alarm as it read 4:15 that I thought about saying screw it and just get up. But I didn't.

Whine whine whine.

Cloverfield is turning into what I expected it to be: a good, fun old monster movie dressed up in hip clothes. Reviews are coming in with people giving it positives while saying it's an old film looking new and with others dogging it for being the same thing. Still looking forward to it; I think it'll be fun. Movie's at 68% with 22 reviews counted so far.

Every time I see Lisa Schwarzbaum's name, my lip curls.

Supposedly, a Turok demo is on Live. Haven't looked yet. Might check it out. Also, apparently a Devil May Cry 4 demo is also inbound, hopefully prior to the game's release. I really wish they'd release the TGS demo of Lost Odyssey.

Next week, PixelJunk Monsters will be out on the PS3's Playstation Network. I absolutely love tower defense games (like in Warcraft 3) and this game looks to mesh cute story book graphics with tower defense gameplay. I can't wait! Here's some info about it; hopefully it'll be just as addictive as the other Tower Defense games I've played. Now...to find someone else to play this with.

Now that Age of Conan looks to be really and truly sticking with its March 25th release date, my excitement is growing by the day. I really wish I were in the beta right now. I want to build cities, wage war, dismember my foes, partake in "drunkin' brawling" in the taverns and go around yelling "CROOOMMM!"

...okay, maybe not the last one.

Update on the PC thing

So, I bought a laptop last night. I knew that within the next few months I'd have to buy one. I'm going to training for my job. For six weeks. So, I knew I'd need a laptop to keep me sane for that long period. What happened yesterday just spurred my purchase a little quicker than expected.

But they're doing 2 years no interest. So. Can't complain there.

The laptop is nice. It's not great, but it'll do. I'm installing a couple games as I type this, so I'm still hoping it'll run them okay. The one thing I really hate about laptops is that unless you are buying expensive ones, it seems really difficult to find laptops that don't have integrated video RAM. This one has 256 MB of discrete video RAM and then it's integrated after that. So...it should be okay. My desktop PC it ain't.

I think the problem with my desktop is the power source. But of course ibuypower's tech support was closed on Saturdays. I was happily playing Tabula Rasa when my PC just shut down. Then I couldn't turn it back on. So, tomorrow I'll be calling tech support and figuring out what's what and what they're going to do. The PC's only about 6-7 months old, it's under warranty and tech support so things should be good. I hope.

Jack Thompson versus the Government

Assuming that Jack Thompson isn't disbarred in the New Year (we can all cross our fingers, eh?), his new target is going to be linking the Department of Defense (DoD) to violent video games and their "unholy alliance."

Link.

He even sinks lower in my thoughts than he already was by attempting to link this "alliance" to the recent shooting at my local mall:

"One of the consequences of this collaboration [between the DoD and the game biz] is the increasing number of commando-style assaults by young video gamers, such as the recent “mall massacre” in Omaha, Nebraska."

This is simply asinine. To make that causal link, he'd have to completely ignore the other issues going on here including depression, being kicked from his family, an unstable family life, drugs, suicide attempts, etc. Additionally, there is no evidence that the games made by this "unholy alliance," by which I mean America's Army and Full Spectrum Army, were even played by the troubled kid. All we know was he played games. Considering how much gaming has been integrated into the culture, finding an average teen who hasn't played at least one video game is probably pretty difficult.

At any rate, this is just another attempt of Jack Thompson to stay relevant and keep his name out there. You can't be infamous if you aren't popping up every once in awhile and he's been quiet since his trial in November in which he could face being disbarred (God willing).

Really, I shouldn't be surprised of this. I mean, this is the man who's been saying that the world is against him and there's a vast conspiracy that's out to destroy him that includes Penny Arcade, the gaming industry at large, the ECA, Gamepolitics.com and porn lawyers.

Of vampires and rock bands

So, I lied. I do have a couple things to talk about. Nothing too big, though. One of my Xmas gifts was the book Fangland by John Marks. What a fascinating novel. I'm really enjoying it. It's kind of a modern day, post 9/11 retelling of Bram Stoker's Dracula.

It's about Evangeline Harker, a young producer for The Hour, a hit TV news show. Recently engaged, she's sent off to Romania to meet with an arms dealer named Torgu. The events leading up to the meeting are ominous and speak to what's going to happen in the coming pages. When she meets him, he's very off and the events seem very similar to Dracula. She's locked in his giant hotel as he's gone "on business" during the day. He also wants to use Harker as a way to get to New York. I'm not very far into it, but it's definitely an exciting novel with a kind of cheesy name (though the name refers, at least partially, to the environment Harker works in at The Hour; a kind of dog-eat-dog world). It's written in the epistolary format, just like the original Dracula, and is actually pretty intense. I'd definitely recommend it to fans of vampires/Bram Stoker's novel. I'm sure I'll have more as I get further into it.

I brought Rock Band over to my parent's house yesterday so we could jam for a bit. It's funny, when I first brought it over back at Thanksgiving, I thought my dad would be good at it and my mom would barely get by. I was shocked to find out it's the opposite. Especially yesterday. My dad was struggling to get 60-70% on either the bass or the lead guitar (and in fact said that the reason he was doing poorly on the lead was because he "couldn't hear his part" so he switched to the bass). On a couple songs we had to save him and bring him back. Conversely, my mom was rocking it out with high 80s and some 90s.

The best part was when my dad switched to the drums so I could mess around on the guitar. At one point, he was just smashing away and his sticks went flying. All three of us broke down into laughter to the point my mom was coughing. I'm not sure what caused it exactly, but the simple act of seeing the drum sticks go flying and my dad's confused "how did that happen?" look was priceless. Definitely worth the hassle of carting around all of the equipment.

When possessed phones attack

So, the current internet fad Yahtzee's latest video apparently tackles Mass Effect and, from what I'm seeing in communities, Ctrl+Alt+Del (CAD). I guess I'll see it when I get home tonight and see what everyone's saying. I wish I could watch it here, but I cannot. Just seeing what's being said on the Escapist forums is enough:

"Oh wow that is great. I know a guy who loves CAD, and he definitely qualifies as a self-important retard."

Of course, some comments made me laugh:

"i just went and had a look at ctrl+alt+delete, and all i can say it is one of the most retarted comics ever."

If you're going to insult something, try spelling retarded correctly, yeah? Unless he/she was saying that CAD used to be a tart, stopped being so tart (maybe he added more sugar?) and now is re-tarted? I guess Tim responded, but, again, I can't access the link here.

Anyway, enough of that. There's a trailer online for The Ruins, apparently. I haven't watched it yet but I will when I get home tonight. If you haven't read the book and don't want to be assaulted by spoilers, I'd recommend staying clear of it. It probably contains major spoilers.

I want it to be the weekend. For one, I'm dreaming of the four day break. For two, I want to get rid of my possessed phone.

Duke Nukem...

So, rumor has it that Duke Nukem Forever will finally have a teaser trailer today. In fact, it might be here. Does anyone care? It's been in development hell for 10 years. And, to top things off, it's not as if it was a really terrific series. Honestly, it's only truly known for its first foray into 3D, creatively called Duke Nukem 3D.

Now that we're 10 years from when the game first was developed, and the gaming scene has changed, does the world really need another misogynistic, albeit probably at least semi-ironically so, action hero? I think "run and gun" games, unless thy name be Halo, are slowly becoming a thing of the past.

I got Scene It? Lights, Camera, Action (Xbox 360) as a Christmas present last night! It made me happy. I only took it out of its package and read about the controllers, etc. I did learn something kind of cool. While it's a bummer that you have to plug in an infrared sensor for the four "Big Button Controllers" to work and it's not the same wireless tech as in the normal controllers (I'm assuming to get past the proprietary $$ BS), the bonus is that you can actually have 8 controllers working. I haven't tried this out, but according to the instructions, the first controller corresponds to the green big button controller, the second to the red, etc.

This means that if you have more than four people playing and so play as teams, not players, each team could theoretically have two controllers. So, instead of having four teams of two fight over one controller per team, there could be two controllers per team. This doesn't mean you can have 8 individual players/scores, but it looks like it's a good way to supplement team play. So that's cool.

I did mess around with the infrared sensors since I was leery about it over pure wireless play, and it seemed to work pretty well. I moved around the livingroom from different angles and unless I was on the side of the TV where I couldn't see the TV, or I was trying to do it through my body, it worked. I could aim it at the ceiling, at the wall behind me and it worked. Now, to see how the actual game, you know, plays.

I'm petty

You'll have to forgive me for the following. Has anyone ever 'googled' themselves? It seems like an incredibly narcissistic thing to do, a narcissistic thing that I have done a lot a few times, mostly ever since I started writing for CADMedia. I feel very vain for doing so, but I'll admit I've done it.

It's amazing how if you put your name out there, the people who try to contact you or try to have an argument with you...and they don't know you from the monkey next door, nor have they ever even talked with you. I'm speaking in relation to reviews. I found an old review of mine about Korn's last album and I discussed oh-so-briefly the title of one of the bonus tracks "Le Petit Morte." The title is funny because Le Petit Morte is a french saying for "orgasm" and means, literally the little death. And Korn takes this metaphor and runs with it with some funny lyrics that play on the dual role of the phrase. Well, some guy apparently started a "review war" (unbeknownst to me) about how Le Petit Morte wasn't an orgasm it means "small death" omgnooblol.

I just found that amusing.

One thing I found that I was pretty proud of was that the guy that composed the music to The Longest Journey: Dreamfall quoted my review. This whole "my name out in the interweb" thing is new to me and kind of exciting, even though I feel so stupid, small and petty for googling it.

This a'suit is NOT black.

So...one of the LJ communities I belong to posted a link to the Miss Video Game awards competition. Here's the link. I'd be curious to hear back from some of you about this, heheh. I'm sure it'd be great responses. Just to fuel the fire, here's a quote from the site:

"To make the gaming industry take women gamers seriously and to treat them with respect as equals."

...now DANCE! DANCE YOU FOOLS!

Speaking of which, tonight I'm going to see Borat which also deals with bigotry and objectifying and other fun subjects. It's probably one of the highest rated movies out right now or for this year. It's sitting at 95% on the rottentomato meter which is amazing. Scratch that, it IS the highest rated movie this year, according to rottentomatoes (and they should know). I can't wait. I think Sacha Baron Cohen (why do I want to say Sacha Cohen Baron? I always have to look his name up b/c I mess it up all the time) is a brilliant comedian. I have loved his TV show ever since I first saw it and the way he just becomes his characters is awesome.

My PS2 controller is dying. This is not good. I need it to last me another 2 weeks. It keeps saying it's been disconnected, which is problematic when I'm trying to play FFXII. I don't want to buy another controller because in two weeks, I'll have a PS3 and the PS2 controllers don't work on the PS3 and it'd be an absolute waste of money. So....it needs to keep chugging along for two more weeks. *crosses fingers*

Why is it that I went to bed really early last night (in bed by 9, asleep before 10) and I'm more tired than I have been this week. Explain that one to me.

Saw Saw III on Friday and it was good; a little gross, but good. It was a good way to end the unofficial trilogy and yet allow Lionsgate to continue milkingbleeding (ha!) the series for all its worth. Not as shocking as the first two, but definitely the grossest of the three (still not as bad as Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning--a film I have no intention of seeing again). I really liked how they tied it into the first two films and showed you how everything came to be. It also filled in some gaping plot holes. So, overall, fun. Watched Feast again with my brother and it was just as funny and fun the second time as it was the first.

Final Fantasy XII is out today and I'm shocked at how unexcited I am for it. It's already paid off, I'm getting it today. It's getting rave reviews from everywhere. The story is going to rock. I think the new battle system will be fun. It's going to be a great game. But I'm not really excited for it. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun and I have a feeling it'll be the best FF released...but...I don't know. Part of it is because I have a lot of things on my plate and the timing isn't the greatest. Nightfall just came out, I'm half way through Dark Messiah (which has gotten much, much better) and next week Gears of War and Viva Pinata is out...so, a 40-100 hour RPG just...seems like a lot of time lol.

The other reason is...I think my tastes are changing )

In other news, happy Halloween everyone :) Is anyone wearing a costume today?

Devil cat strikes again; and Steam-powered pains

Why does my cat like to shred things? I havehad a pretty nifty poster of Gears of War that was sitting on my dinner table, waiting for me to get the gumption to do something with it. So, this morning I find it on the floor...portions of it chewed and shredded. She shreds everything! In all honesty, I don't know what I'd do with the poster so it's not a huge loss. It was just annoying to come out and see her sitting in front of its shredded form, staring up at me with those self-satisfied eyes saying, "Look what I did, Dad!"

I felt like Lisa in the Simpsons when Homer destroys something of hers and she shouts "This is why I can't have nice things!"

...at least she's stopped chewing through my speaker wire.

I was going to talk briefly about Dark Messiah of Might and Magic...

And I wish I could, but I can't. Why? A little program called Steam. )

Waiting on the world to change

I apologize for being so prolific this week. I guess I have a lot on my mind. I'm sitting here, listening to the radio and John Mayer's "new" song comes on. Now, I'm not really a John Mayer fan. In fact, I've never purchased one of his albums (and probably never will) because my tastes run more Korn, NIN, Coheed and Cambria, Avenged Sevenfold than John Mayer.

However, his latest song is a paeon to my generation, I think. I had posted previously about how I felt generationless because I was born in 1981 and depending on where you look I'm either in between generations somehow or I'm part of X or part of Y. Obviously, it's not an exact science, but I felt myself identifying more with Generation X than Y. Well...now that I know I'm part of Y, the "millennials" and I can kind of see and identify with the generation.

Anyway his latest song is called "Waiting On the World to Change." And, it hit the spot for me because it accurately describes everything I feel about the current world. It's like...I feel like since our generation is still so new and isn't taken seriously yet that things aren't going to change until we grow up. Whether this be social issues I'm particularly in favor of or even "smaller" things like the video game legislation (I still don't think it a small issue because it's one of our most basic rights as citizens...that being Free Speech), I feel like there's not much I can do right now. And it comes across as apathetic, maybe. So. When I started actually listening to the lyrics in this song, it hit me. This is me and this song, to me at least, is MOSTLY representative of all of the generation Y people I know. I'll put the lyrics behind a cut if someone is interested.

"We just feel like we don't have the means
To rise above and beat it"

I'm curious to hear what people think... )

Daylight Savings Time

I must have the most horrible luck. Last night, I went to Target because I had to pick up some essentials...mainly the new Stephen King novel, Saw II Uncut (funniest name ever...uncut...), Monster House and a new cd. When I got home, I opened Saw II to find the insides broken. I decided I'd bring it back today. So, I sat down to watch Monster House...and got about an hour into it before it crapped out on me. Now I need to know how it's going to end! To top it off, the Feast DVD I bought from Target last week skips. I wasn't going to bother with it since I could finish the movie...but damn. Is it me?!

Today, Dark Messiah comes out, woot. I still need to finish Sam and Max. I'm so close and I could have finished it last night if I had figured out how to purchase the knock out gas launcher from the Inconvience Store. That took me a good 30 minutes. I thought the game was bugged. Now, I'm at the final "Act" and so hopefully I'll have a review done shortly. I did manage to get the Lumines Live! review up and ready to go. Just need to do some final editing and it'll go live, woot.

We had a mini discussion yesterday in the office concerning Daylight Savings Time. We were talking about how it came about and it was interesting because everyone had a different answer. If you look it up online, depending on where you go, you'll most likely find a couple different reasons for it. I know when I looked it up last Spring to find out why the fuck I was being forced to lose an hour of precious sleep that I was told a myriad of reasons.

So...do you know why we have Daylight Savings Time? )
