I am such a fanboy
I am still rather stoked that I managed to sneak an interview with Ragnar Tornquist of The Longest Journey/Dreamfall fame. I felt like a crazy otaku talking to him and I had to seriously control myself. I absolutely love the guy. He *gets* it when it comes to telling a story. Some people have really dogged on his latest game because of the gameplay, but in truth here is a guy who has created a terrific story that is novel-worthy and has wrapped a web of intrigue around it. He did it with The Longest Journey (which was on numerous best of the year lists when it was released) and created the standard to which point and click adventure games would be matched against.
So, talking to the guy...I had to reign myself in. I didn't want to come across as a kiss-butt journalist just to score and interview (which isn't the case, at all) or as some fawning fanboy (which isn't the case). I admire his work immensely, but I don't think I'm clouded by it as you can see from my review. But, I'm hoping the interview will go live next week. Tim already said he would whore it out on the front page of Ctrl+Alt+Del so that makes me happy.
I was also going to try and score an interview with American McGee...that was until I played Bad Day LA. Now, I doubt (particularly after my review) that he would be so willing to chat. I talked with him briefly before the game was released. I think he would be an interesting person to interview, even though I don't necessarily like some things he has said and he really hasn't had a successful/awesome game since Alice...oh well. Maybe when more information comes out concerning his episodic dark fairy tales, and when Bad Day LA is simply a ghost of a memory, I'll try to reconnect with him.
